How Sublocade Works

Sublocade is a monthly buprenorphine injection administered by a healthcare provider. Unlike daily Suboxone films, Sublocade provides steady medication levels for an entire month, eliminating the need for daily dosing and reducing the risk of missed doses. This makes it especially appealing for patients who struggle with daily medication routines or who have concerns about diversion.

Before starting Sublocade, patients must first be stable on a buprenorphine film or tablet for at least 7 days. The first Sublocade injection is given in a provider's office, and subsequent doses are scheduled monthly. Patients typically pay little out of pocket — most major insurance plans cover Sublocade, and the manufacturer offers assistance programs for uninsured patients.
